Roundalab established the Standardization of Classic Dance Cues Committee to review original cue sheets of the dances selected by the membership as Golden Classics and to provide a more modern, supplemental cue sheet that is easier for leaders to use. Some of the original cue sheets are difficult to interpret. The goal of this committee is to put them into a standard format using RAL preferred cue terms and thereby encourage round dance leaders to cue those cherished classics and keep them alive.
No attempt is made to modify the choreography in the original cue sheets in any way. Where the choreographers are still alive, they are asked to review the proposed SCDC cue sheets and every attempt is made to conform them to the choreographers’ suggestions.
The committee selects a group of Golden Classics each year to review. Once a SCDC cue sheet is finalized in committee, it is sent to the Standardization Committee for review, and then sent to the RAL annual convention for approval by the members present. The proposed “classic” cues are published each spring in the Journal, prior to the convention.
Occasionally a glitch gets through the process. Any questions about the published adopted SCDC cue sheets should be sent to the RAL office by mail or email. We assure you they will be reviewed.
The committee is always looking for new members. Anyone with good editing skills and a thorough understanding of the RAL Manual, its preferred cue terms and abbreviations should contact the RAL office and join in!
